Senior Project Manager, Remediation
About Our Client
Our client is a growing environmental consulting and contracting firm with a clear sense of purpose: helping businesses and organizations navigate the complexities of environmental compliance, manage risk, and unlock the value in their land and facilities. They sit at the intersection of business and the environment, and they are scaling intentionally through organic growth and strategic acquisition. Their culture is built around service, commitment, teamwork, and safety, and they invest in the people who carry those values forward every day.
The Opportunity
This is a pivotal moment for the Remediation practice, and they are looking for the right person to own it. As Senior Project Manager, you will be the primary technical and project lead on complex remediation engagements, including large Phase IIs, brownfield redevelopment, and LSRP/risk-based closure programs. You will also play a meaningful role in building the operational foundation for a growing practice line.
This is a player-coach role. You will be hands-on technically, client-facing, and genuinely invested in the development of junior staff. You will work closely with founding technical leadership through a deliberate knowledge transition, with a clear path to grow into expanded leadership responsibility as the practice scales.
If you are a strong technical PM who is ready to step into a higher-impact, higher-visibility role at a firm that is actively building something special, this deserves a serious look.
What You Will Be Doing
Project Leadership
- Own delivery on large, complex remediation projects from scoping through closure, on time, on budget, and at the quality clients expect
- Serve as primary technical authority on remediation strategy, site characterization, and risk-based decision making
- Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and field crews
- Maintain proactive communication with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders
- Produce and provide QC on technical deliverables including work plans, reports, and regulatory submissions
Client Development
- Cultivate and grow client relationships within the practice line
- Participate in business development, proposal writing, client meetings, and industry networking
- Identify and communicate cross-selling opportunities across other service lines
Team Development
- Mentor and develop junior project staff, including PMs, staff scientists, and field technicians
- Build standardized workflows, templates, and SOPs for the Remediation practice
- Collaborate closely with technical leadership on complex project strategy and regulatory approach
What You Bring
Required
- 10+ years of progressively complex experience in environmental consulting with a focus on remediation
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex remediation projects, including brownfield redevelopment, large Phase II investigations, and LSRP or equivalent risk-based closure programs
- Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory frameworks, including IEPA, MODNR, and/or other Midwest regulatory agencies
- Existing relationships with federal, state, and local regulators in Missouri and/or Illinois
- Experience managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, WIP, and financials
- A track record of client retention and relationship development
- BS in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or related field
Preferred
- Experience with Illinois or Missouri voluntary cleanup/brownfield program structures
- Brownfield grant program experience (USEPA, HUD, or state programs)
- Experience supporting or leading business development efforts
- Prior experience mentoring or managing technical staff
Why This Role
- Step into a foundational leadership role at a growing, acquisition-oriented firm, not just another PM seat in a large organization
- Real autonomy to manage your projects and client relationships the right way
- A clear, defined path to Director-level responsibility as the Remediation practice scales
- A culture that genuinely invests in its people and means it
- A collaborative team that does great work and actually enjoys working together
